EnterpriseDB and NTT joined forces to support PostgreSQL community
EnterpriseDB, the leading worldwide provider of PostgreSQL and Oracle database compatibility products and services, announced support and services for organisations deploying the Community release of Postgres-XC 1.0. Just released, the extensible cluster (XC) software comes after three years of development by a PostgreSQL Community work group led by EnterpriseDBand Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) Corporation.
Postgres-XC is a write-scalable synchronous symetric Postgres cluster providing both read and write scalability. The software significantly enhances the performance, scalability and high availability of Postgres. These features are critical to the enterprises deploying PostgreSQL and Postgres Plus databases with greater frequency to replace costly traditional databases.
“The release of Postgres-XC represents a major step forward for Postgres in the global enterprise,” Koichi Suzuki, a fellow at NTT Data Intellilink and the project lead of Postgres-XC, said. “Business operations across the enterprise will benefit from new capabilities in data replication/sharding and transactional processing with still more capabilities to come as the software undergoes continued development.”
Business applications with significant transactional activities can now take advantage of a proven open source databasecluster technology that overcomes the challenge of scaling out write performance. Postgres-XC addresses this challenge by controlling multiple transactions distributed over clustered database nodes. A complement to PostgreSQL, Postgres-XC provides a consistent view of the database to multiple applications connecting across a variety of nodes, and it includes node-level controls.“Our customers include some of the largest corporations in the world and we’re working with other industry leaders like NTT alongside the PostgreSQL community to create important open source database technologies to meet new market needs,” Ed Boyajian, president and CEO of EnterpriseDB, said. “EnterpriseDB’s new offering for Postgres-XC continues our mission to bring enterprise-class products and support to users of PostgreSQL technologies.”
